From Principal Anderson
I hope that all of you have been able to see the beautiful refurbished statues that were blessed by Fr. Ken at a recent weekend Mass. The first statue is of the Blessed Mary with the Christ Child. Fr. Ken told the school children at Mass this week how that same statue was in the original St. Charles Church building in 1905.
On the opposite side of the altar stands Joseph. He was donated as a matching piece to the Blessed Mary. He, too, has been refurbished and placed in the church. An additional statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has also been refurbished and will be placed in the school in the hallway of the new addition on the top floor. We hope to have that statue in place by the end of the school year.
We are grateful to the community of St. Charles and especially those who helped raise the funds to repaint and refurnish the statues. The money was raised at the 2016 St. Charles Parish Auction and helped with our goal of increasing Catholic Identity on campus.
We have also been reminded this week of how well our students share their gifts and talents with others. Our middle school students presented their Science Fair projects to judges. They shared their knowledge of the scientific process and public speaking skills. Students were passionate about their work. Please take some time to tour around the Borromeo Room to see these marvelous projects. The projects will be in the Borromeo Room through Monday afternoon. Also please join us on Monday at 2:30 pm for the awards ceremony.
This week our band celebrated and performed with two other local Catholic schools in the 3rd Annual Lake Country Band Fest. Students from St. Charles, St. Jerome and St. Anthony came together for two daytime concerts and an evening concert at St. Charles on Thursday night.
And, as a great ending to the week, our students will perform =E2=80=9CGodspell Jr.=E2=80=9D this weekend in the Holy Family Recreation Center. The rehearsals have been great and the actors and actresses are excited. Come see the play on Saturday at 6:30 pm or Sunday at 2:00 pm. Tickets are on sale for $5 in the Parish Office or $6 at the door. You will not be disappointed.
Our exciting spring continues as we look forward to our Spring Concert on Thursday, May 3.
And, one of the most exciting annual events of the school, VIP Day, is scheduled on Friday, May 4. On this day we honor all those who help support Catholic education as we share our faith and knowledge with them. We will begin the day by celebrating Mass together at 8:30 am, enjoying breakfast, attending the 4th grade Folk Fair and visiting classrooms. A new event was added this year and we will hold an Art Sale in the Holy Family Recreation Center. Framed artwork completed by the students will be for sale in the gym. Pieces will be sold for $25 each and can be carried out the same day.
We look forward to this great tradition of VIP Day and hope to see many grandparents, aunts, uncles or friends. We have a lot to celebrate.
Looking forward to some warm weather next week,
Mrs. Anderson
