Dear Parents,

Please enjoy the day off with your children on Friday, March 1. We appreciate your understanding with another day off as our staff will be in an all-day Teacher Inservice at St. Anthony's on the Lake. This is the last day off students will have until Friday, April 19 which is Good Friday and the start of Easter Break. Just a reminder that the day off scheduled for Monday, March 25 will now be used as Snow Day makeup and students will be school on this day. It's been a very choppy January and February with Snow Days and scheduled days off but we look forward to the coming weeks where students are in school for five days each week.

Next Wednesday, March 6 is Ash Wednesday and we expect a large number of people to attend the All-School Mass at 8:30 am on that day. The parking lot will be very busy as parents drop off students and parishioners come for Mass. Please consider arriving to school earlier that morning so you can avoid the rush that comes after 8:15 am.

One of our Lenten sacrifices for the entire school will be our Silent Entrance each Monday morning and our Silent Exit on Friday afternoons. This is similar to what we did during Advent. This year we would like to add Ash Wednesday into our silent time and therefore we ask students and their parents to enter school on Wednesday morning in silence. Students will then walk to 8:30 am Mass. Early next week we will outline all the prayer, reflection, service and sacrifices by our students and staff that will take place during Lent.

We are happy to share good news that our Spanish teacher Ms. Schroettner and her husband welcomed a baby boy into the world on Monday evening, Feb. 25. Leo Sebastian arrived weighing just over 6 pounds and measuring 20 inches. The entire family is doing well and we look forward to Ms. Schroettner's return later this spring. Our students had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Hohenwalter (for those who don't already know her she is 8th Grader Audrey's mom) and we welcome her as the long-term substitute teacher in Spanish.

Our 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team plays their first game in the Padre Serra Basketball Tournament later tonight at 6:30 pm at Mount Mary University in Milwaukee. They play St. Francis Borgia from Cedarburg which is where our former Associate Pastor Fr. Patrick Burns is now the pastor. Our 8th Grade Girls Team plays next Saturday, March 9 at 10 am at Mount Mary. The athletes would love to see some friendly faces in the stands so come out, show our St. Charles pride and energize our players. Go Crusaders!

And finally, we want to make you aware of a hoax that is circulating around the Internet called the Momo Challenge. It started on social media and was spread by Facebook and other media sources. There is an animated female character who encourages children to carry out dangerous acts of violence and threatens to harm family members if they don't follow through. The Momo Challenge started last year but made a resurgence in recent weeks. It sneaks up on YouTube videos and other kid-friendly shows.

Other News To Share

The Women's Club of Pewaukee and the Pewaukee Area Arts Council are hosting the Helen Farnsworth Mears Art Contest for 7th and 8th Grade students. Artwork is on display at the Pewaukee Library from Friday, March 1 through Wednesday, March 20. Participating students from St. Charles are Hannah Jochman, Elizabeth Henkel, Fiona Holmes, Lauren Plas, Kate Krueger, Clare Merkel, Clare Zussman and Ava Lillesand.  Award winners and their families will be honored on Monday, March 11 at 5:30 pm at the Pewaukee Library.  We wish our students the best of luck! 

Auction Raffle Ticket Sales:  Raffle tickets are on sale this weekend after all Masses. Buy a raffle ticket and a chance to win $3,000 in cash or $3,000 toward school tuition at St. Charles Parish School for the 2019-2020 School Year. Raffle tickets were sent home last week so check your child's backpack or folder. Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100. Please note that incorrect information was sent earlier this week and 5 tickets (not 6 tickets) are $100. We apologize for the confusion. The winning ticket will be pulled at the Auction on March 9. Winner does not need be present to win!

Communion Clothing Drive: St. Charles Parish and School is collecting First Holy Communion clothing that will be donated to families at St. Anthony School in Milwaukee. Do you have communion dresses, veils, suits, pants, shirts and other accessories that you would be willing to pass along to other families?  The Communion Clothing Drive takes place Saturday, March 9 through Sunday, March 17. During the weekends drop off the clothing to the Parish Hall; during the week please drop off in the School Office or the Parish Office. The Wisconsin Catholic Youth Rally: (WCYR) is a powerful and prayerful day-long conference experience for middle and high school students from all over Wisconsin and the Midwest! Each rally features dynamic and engaging speakers, praise and worship music, Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and a lot of fun as we strive to help teens deepen their relationship with God and His Church.
