The Weekly Rundown
MISSION STATEMENT: St. Charles Parish School in Hartland, Wisconsin nourishes and grows a vibrant Catholic community committed to innovation, responsiveness and compassion as it prepares and challenges students in their intellectual, spiritual and moral lives.
Happy Advent Everyone!
We are truly blessed in so many ways and during this joyous Advent Season we are able to take a step back from the day to day, reflect on what we=E2=80=99ve done and who we are, and dig deep into where, when, and how Jesus fits into our lives.
We started our journey into these exciting four weeks by entering the school Monday morning in silence and darkness. This simple act allowed us to be reminded that we are waiting in holy preparation for the coming of our Lord. Our students did an amazing job! Thank you parents and staff for your support in making this a success! We will exit on Friday afternoon in silence and with dimmed lights.
Also, there are many opportunities to attend Mass (the parish adds a weekday 6:30 am Mass during Advent), participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and gather in prayer during the Advent season. Take a minute to learn more here. Make this Advent a season to remember.

Other news to share:
Re-enrollment: It's hard to believe that we're already looking at the end of 2018 and we are well underway planning for the 2019-2020 School Year. Re-enrollment for our current families for next school year opens on Saturday, Dec. 15. On that day you will receive an email asking you to enroll your child for next school year. We encourage you to reserve your child's spot on or shortly after Dec. 15 as we will open enrollment to all new families beginning Jan. 15, 2019. More details to come through the re-enrollment email.
Advent Concert: Our Advent Concert is next week on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 pm. Students must report to their classes by 6 pm. Music teacher Ms. Stalteri has been working hard to prepare our students for an engaging and wonderful evening of music and celebration. Doors to the gym will open at 6 pm and there is no reserved seating other than the front row seats which are saved for those parents who purchased them at the 2018 Auction. We're expecting a very full house. I'm looking forward to seeing you there! For more information, please click here.
Rosary Group: Please join us on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 8:30 am in the Life Teen Cafe for the next rosary gathering. We're eagerly looking forward to meeting again to intentionally pray for our students, families and school. Headed by Louise Morris, a school parent, all parents/guardians are welcome to join in prayer. No experience necessary! Whether you are experienced in prayer, know the rosary, but it has been awhile or you have never prayed the rosary before ... ALL are welcome to come together. Prayer sheets and rosaries will be provided. Moms and dads we know you are very busy this time of year but we hope you will take some time this Advent and pray the rosary. To learn about other ways to pray this Advent visit this link.
Recess Help: We're looking for recess help for the week of Monday, Dec. 17 through Friday, Dec. 20. If you have an hour to spare from 11:55 am to 12:55 pm please spend it at school on the playground. The Home and School Association approved double hours for this volunteer job so it's a great way to fulfill your service hours. If you would like to monitor the playground with our kiddos, please email me. In addition, we're looking for more help in the lunchroom as an extra set of hands is always welcome. Again the Home and School Association is offering double hours. The shift runs from 11:30 am to 1 p.m. Click here to sign up.
Thank you so much to those of you who have volunteered your time to help out. I greatly appreciate the teamwork!
Following His plan,
Mr. Garvey

Announcements to keep in mind:
Spring Musical News: St. Charles will once again partner with Lake Country Playhouse to present the Spring Musical and this year the play is Willy Wonka, Jr. Students in 2nd through 8th Grade will be eligible to take part in the play. There is a parent meeting on Friday, Dec. 7 at 3:30 pm in the IMC to learn more information. The meeting will last about 30-45 minutes. The play will be performed the first weekend of April.
Student Stars: Three St. Charles students are in local holiday productions and we wanted to let you know so you could support them. Gia Waterman, a 1st Grader, is in the Nutcracker Ballet, which performs at the Oconomowoc Performing Arts Center this weekend. MollyClaire Gibbons, a 7th Grader, is performing The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at Lake Country Playhouse later this month and Eve Skatrud, a 7th Grader, is in Candy Cane Tales and Holiday Carols through Waukesha Civic Theater.
Sock Drive: The Student Council is sponsoring a Sock Drive to benefit the Hope Center in downtown Waukesha. Please bring new socks for children or adults and drop them in the bin outside the School Office. On Wednesday, Dec. 19 there will be a Wacky Wednesday Dress Down Day and students are encouraged to wear Ugly Sweaters and/or Crazy Socks. Their "ticket" to dress down is bringing in new socks for the Hope Center. Please note the Wacky Wednesday Dress Down Day was moved from Dec. 12 to Dec. 19. We apologize for the confusion.
Volunteers Needed On Dec. 19: We are in need of about four parents who can help on Wednesday, Dec. 19 by picking up boxes of canned food from Sam's Club and Pick and Save in Waukesha at 1 pm. Food will be picked up and brought back to St. Charles. This is for our Advent Spirit Service Project that takes place on Thursday, Dec. 20. The trip from those stores and back to St. Charles would take about 60 to 90 minutes. Can you help? Please contact Christina Holmes. Thank you for your consideration!
Gift Ideas: All artwork created by our students is photographed and then uploaded to Artsonia, which is the world's largest online children's art gallery. There are great deals going on where your child's artwork can be imprinted on cups, canvas and other personalized keepsakes. Check out Artsonia and get gifts for grandparents and other friends. SCRIP is another good gift-giving option and easy to buy here at St. Charles and also help the school. We now have Amazon cards worth $25 and $100 and we will have them year-round (and not just at Christmas as in years past). We also have $5 gift cards to Panera and Starbucks and $10 gift cards to Target -- perfect for stocking stuffers. Come in and do most of your shopping in the Parish Office and buy SCRIP.
Click here for the SCRIP form. Drop off your SCRIP form to the Parish Office or submit online your SCRIP form by Sunday morning and SCRIP will be sent home the following Friday with your child. It's that easy. For questions about SCRIP contact Rebecca Dibb. Please note that Sunday, Dec. 16 is the last day to order SCRIP to guarantee Christmas delivery.
