It was a lovely Night of Irish Blessings on Saturday, March 17. The annual St. Charles Parish and School Auction took place almost two weeks ago and it was a fabulous evening. It was especially fun to see so many of those in attendance take the Irish theme so seriously. I'm sure there were many jealous leprechauns!
I am very thankful to those who put this night together. Our hard-working parent volunteers and Auction Co-Chairs Kristin Walsh and Wendy Crisci, along with their amazing volunteer teams, put in hundreds of hours of work to make the evening a great success. If you see them please stop and thank them for the tremendous effort, time, treasure and talent they gave to the auction during the last year.
There were many items to bid on in both the silent and live auctions. Those items came from many parish and community members who support St. Charles. As always, I am humbled by the amount of money we can raise by just asking. Thank you for your generosity in so many ways. It was certainly a Night of Blessings!
Next, I want to provide you with a quick update on the work that the Search Committee has done in the search fora new principal of St. Charles Parish School. The position has been posted for two weeks and it will be posted for another week. The interview team has been chosen and several applications have come in for the committee to review. The team consists of parents, school staff and parish representation and the team is led by Jon Ingrisano, School Commission Chair.
We anticipate conducting initial interviews in April and feel very confident that we will have a candidate chosen by June 1. We are excited about the applications that have come in to date and know that we will have several great candidates to choose from. Please continue to keep St. Charles and this process in your prayers.
Finally, I am joined by the school staff in wishing all of our families a blessed Easter and a relaxing time off. Our students, staff and family had a prayerful Lenten journey. We are excited to celebrate the risen Lord.

Thursday, March 29: Early Release at 11:45 am for students in 5K through 8th Grade. Students in 3K and 4K will be released at 11:30 am. This also begins the start of Easter Break. School resumes on Monday, April 9.
Monday, April 9: Culver's Night for St. Charles Parish and School. Dine in or carry out between the hours of 5 pm and 8 pm and 10 percent of the evening's sales will be returned to St. Charles.
Starting Monday, April 16 and remaining until the end of the school year: Students are welcome to wear khaki or blue shorts as part of their uniforms. Please no shorts on Mass days.
Tuesday, April 17: Early Release Day for Teacher InService. Students in 5K through 8th Grade will be released at 11:45 am and students in 3K and 4K will be released at their regular time of 11:30 am.
Wednesday, April 18: Middle School students present Science Fair Projects to judges.
Thursday, April 19: Band Fest at St. Charles. Students who play in Advanced and Beginning Bands will perform for students at 1:15 pm. The evening performance of Band Fest takes place at 6:30 pm at St. Charles. All are welcome to listen to our talented students.
Saturday & Sunday, April 21 & 22: Performances of the spring musical "Godspell Jr." Tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 10 in the Parish Office. Prices are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Make plans to attend and support our St. Charles students.
Monday, April 23: Science Fair Awards Ceremony at 2:30 pm in the Borromeo Room. All are welcome.
Thursday, May 3: Spring Concert beginning at 6:30 pm in the gym.
Friday, May 4: Very Important Person Day (also reffered to as Grandparents' Day) beginning with 8:30 am Mass and running until 11:45 am. More details to come but Save the Date now!

Tax Time And Questions About Tuition Deduction
With April 15 right around the corner, many parents may have plans to finish their taxes during Easter Break. We are reprinting information that appeared earlier this year with regards to the Tuition Tax Rebate. To access a report on tuition paid you must go into your personal TADS account -- we don't have the report in the School Office. Follow these easy steps to find out your tuition deduction.
Lost And Found Bins Filling Up
Stop in the school and look in the Lost and Found bins and you'll see a trove of treasures: jackets, sweatshirts, shirts, mittens, gloves, hats ... and we know all of the items belong to our students. Take a few minutes to search the bins which are located in the Middle School hallway and outside of the School Office. Thank you for your help in keeping our Lost and Found bins manageable.
St. Charles Students Perform "Godspell, Jr." In April
Mark your calendar for April 21 & 22 to see performances of "Godspell, Jr." by our own St. Charles actors and actresses. Students in 2nd through 8th grades have been rehearsing for weeks and they will be ready to perform at 6:30 pm on Saturday, April 21 and 2 pm on Sunday, April 22. Tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Tickets go on sale April 10 in the Parish Office. Come support our students and take in a show!
Student Greeters Needed For "Godspell, Jr."
We're looking for students who would like to greet guests for the Godspell, Jr." play on April 21 & 22. Greeters would welcome guests to the gym and help them find seats if needed. This is a great job for our middle school students in need of service hours. If you're interested please email Nicole Waltersdorf.
Extra Help Needed In Lunchroom and Playground In April And May
One of our lunchroom and playground aides will be out of town in April and May and we are looking for parent volunteers to help cover the shifts. Each shift runs from 11:30 am to 1 pm and the duties include lunch time prep, lunchroom help and recess help. The volunteer would be inside the lunch room from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm and then outdoors from 12:15 pm to 1 pm. Volunteers are needed each weekday from April 25 through May 15. Can you help? In addition, we are in need of volunteers to help in the Health Room. It's very nice to have a mom or dad sit in the health room and attend to kids who need an ice pack or band-aid. Can you help? If so, click here. Also a reminder that all service hours for the 2017- 2018 School Year must be reported by Thursday, May 31.

Denny Stadler, our longtime custodian who keeps St. Charles Parish School tidy and clean along with his wife Terrie and several others in his crew, is one of 10 finalists for Janitor of the Year by Cintas.
Denny is the lead janitor at Lake Country School and works at that school in the mornings and afternoons before coming to St. Charles later in the afternoons. His nomination was submitted by Lake Country School.
Denny is one of 3,200 nominees nationwide and the only Top 10 nominee from Wisconsin. Cintas judges were impressed with the nominees who "who stuck out not only because they do their job exceedingly well but because they have left a positive and lasting impact on their schools. These finalists redefine what it means to be a school janitor.=E2=80=9D

Screen Time Log: Important Reminder From School Counselor Mrs. Delmore
I'm challenging the families of St. Charles to participate in the Children=E2=80=99s Hospital of Wisconsin Healthy Schools Challenge! This is a program supported by Kohl=E2=80=99s Cares and gives us an opportunity to win one of three $500 grants or one of 20 classroom awards.
The challenge: students track screen time outside of school for one week. This simple activity helps encourage students to become more aware of the time spent on computers and other devices. We would like to find out how many hours a day they are spending on screens, when it=E2=80=99s healthier for their minds and bodies to spend that time being active, interacting with family and friends and focusing on mindfulness.
For one week, students record the amount of time spent each day =E2=80=94 outside of school =E2=80=94 on screens. I will collect the record sheets and then have classroom discussions about what they learned. Were they surprised by the amount of time spent on screens after school and in the evening? Do they feel differently when they are on a screen versus reading a book, playing a game or engaging in physical activity? How does screen use impact their relationships?
Please record or if old enough, have your child record screen use (outside of school) from Monday, April 9 until Sunday, April 16. The logs to record the minutes are here.

VIP Day And Art Show
Plans are underway for the VIP Day (also reffered to as Grandparents' Day) and more details will come soon. New this year will be an Art Show where a piece of artwork from each student in the school will be up for sale.
Each student has created one original piece of art under the guidance of our Art Teacher and STEM Coordinator Mrs. Binger. All artwork has been double matted (black and white) and framed (black) and will be displayed in the gym on VIP Day.
All artwork is available for purchase at the price of $25. The frame costs $19 and the remaining $6 for each piece of artwork is donated back to St. Charles. Should you want more than one copy of a student's artwork the ARTOME company will make a high quality copy of the original for the same price (including the matte and frame). Be sure to visit the gym on VIP Day to see our students' beautiful artwork. We have very talented and creative children here at St. Charles!
Three Students In Milwaukee Production Of Beauty And The Beast
Sixth Grader Hannah Jochman and 4th Graders Lila Jochman and Grace jochmans have been cast in the upcoming production of Miwaukees Ballet's "Beaathy and the Beast." Hannah was cast as a Rose and Grace and Lila were cast as Orphans. The performance times are:

Ballpark Day Of Faith
Save the Date for June 24 as hundreds of Catholics across southeastern Wisconsin will go to Mass at Miller Park and then take in a game of the Milwaukee Brewers against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 8th Annual Ballpark Day of Faith is a fun event and a great way to kick off summer. Grab friends and family and make a day of it! Read more here.

Play Tennis With Junior Crusaders At Catholic Memorial
The Catholic Memorial High School Tennis Program has run a tennis club the last two years for middle schoolers at Waukesha Catholic. This year the program will expand to several other local Catholic schools and CMH student-athletes will to serve others through the middle school program.
When: On Sundays, April 15, 22 & 29 and May 6 & 20 from 3 pm to 4 pm.
Where: Heyer Park in Waukesha. Meet at the shed.
What to bring: A tennis racquet and water and wear athletic apparel. If you do not have a racquet, let Coach Jeff Mrochinski know through email or a phone call at 414-510-6939.
To reserve a spot, parents should contact Coach Mrochinski through email or text with their child's name, grade, school and tennis experience (beginner, can keep a rally, or match play experience).
There is no charge to families so all children in 6th, 7th and 8th grades are welcome!

The 2018 season runs Aug. 1 through Oct. 30. All practice and game equipment will be provided and all practices will be at Catholic Memorial. Ths is a full contact youth tackle football program for boys entering 5th through 8th grades with an emphasis on player skill development and education.

Chillin' On The Trail Set For Friday, May 11
Chillin=E2=80=99 On The Trail, a Walk Of Art in Downtown Hartland, takes place Friday, May 11 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Mark your calendars for the annual art show and reception which is free and commemorates Hartland=E2=80=99s official designation as an Ice Age Trail Community. Stroll through downtown Hartland and visit various participating businesses, taking in the sights of exquisite artwork created by local budding artists from our local public and private schools, homeschool groups, Lake Country Fine Arts and the community. STEM Saturday At UW-Sheboygan
Bring your children to a free STEM event at UW-Sheboygan on Saturday, May 12. This day is a family and community event and parents, teachers, coaches and community members are welcome to drop by with their students anytime between 10 am and noon to visit three hands-on workshops. The workshops will be geared toward students between the ages 8 and 14 and parents can preview UW-Sheboygan=E2=80=99s UW summer STEM camps. There will also be campus prizes and light snacks.
