Last Friday we attended the Archdiocese Teacher Convention where we participated in various workshops specific to our interests and in areas that we would like to grow professionally.
The convention was a great day of learning and networking. Teachers are excited to immediately implement new ideas and strategies into their classrooms. In addition to the workshops, St. Charles was presented with an award for Exemplary Recognition for Educating the Whole Student!
A big congratulations to all of the staff that put in the extra time and work to achieve this excellence! Looking forward to going after the next award!

MAP Testing: Fall MAP testing scores were sent home with students on Wednesday. You should have received a parent letter via email that explains the MAP testing process, purpose, and what we do with the information. The Fall MAP test provides us with a baseline in which we can measure academic growth over the course of the year. In addition, it provides teachers powerful data and detailed information that will allow them to modify and individualize instruction. Please reach out to your teacher if you have any questions about the information you received.

Big V-ball game: Our 8th Grade Girls Volleyball Team play St. Mary=E2=80=99s Hales Corners at noon on Sunday, Oct. 14 at St Charles. This may be the biggest match of the year so far. A win for St. Charles would be huge so please spread the word. A large and loud home crowd would make a big difference. Other home volleyball games to catch this weekend: Our 5th Grade Boys Team has matches at 5 pm and 6 pm on Friday, Oct. 12 and our 7th Grade Boys have a match at 8 pm on Friday night.

Voting Day - Nov. 6th: Please know that on Tuesday, Nov. 6th, St. Charles is the only voting site for all residents of Hartland. This means we will have voters entering the parish and walking to the Borromeo Room where they will cast their ballots. The only place for voters to enter will be the parish entrance. Safety and security of students and staff are our number one priority. We have spent the last couple of months planning this day and we are working with Parish Office staff to assist with added security measures during the school day. Please be aware that there will be extra traffic in the neighborhood and in the parking lot. We are working on a morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up contingency plan. We will communicate any changes and/or updates to the normal school day procedures as we get closer to this date.

Penny Wars: Penny Wars was a huge success, bringing in $713.85! The actions of all our students, parents, and staff is an excellent representation of teamwork! Great job! A big thank you to Jenni Burns and all the parents who helped with setting up the buckets each day and spending the time counting all of the money!
Congratulations to 3rd Graders on their win! These students have earned the privilege of pieing me in the face at our Soles Walk school assembly on Monday afternoon!

MUHS Math Meet: Trevor Waltersdorf and Bobby Walsh from 6th Grade will participate in the Marquette University Fall Math meet on Sunday, Oct. 14. They will compete in both an individual and team contest. We wish Trevor and Bobby the best as they participate in this math enrichment opportunity. They have been working with Middle School Math Teacher Mrs. Kathy Mullen in preparation for this day. Good luck!

Soles Walk Registration: If you haven=E2=80=99t registered for the Soles Walk, please consider joining us! It is an awesome event and we need all of us to represent St. Charles! Please sign up, make a donation, and join me in this event that brings us all together to not only benefit St. Charles, but all of what Catholic education is all about. All donations stay right here at St. Charles! The walk begins at 10 am on Saturday, Oct. 20 and it should be over by about noon.

Spirit Wear Sale Extended Through Thursday At Midnight! Mid-City Sports received a number of calls and emails from St. Charles folks who missed the Spirit Wear Sale deadline so the store has kindly extended the sale until later today. St. Vincent de Paul Donation Truck On Campus This Weekend: The St. Vincent de Paul Donation Truck will be parked in the St. Charles parking lot the weekend of Oct. 13th & 14th. Bring your donations of linens, small appliances, small household items, electronics and new and used clothing in any condition. These generous donations help to stock the thrift stores and support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's programs to help the needy. For more information read more here.
Early Release On Tuesday, Oct. 16: Students in 5K through 8th Grade are released at 11:45 am and students in 3K and 4K are released at 11:30 am. We appreciate your understanding as our teachers spend the afternoon working on our upcoming accreditation.
One Week And We Walk For Catholic Education: Next Saturday, Oct. 20, over 8,000 people from across the Archdiocese of Milwaukee will join together in a show of support for Catholic education. Are you one of the nearly 200 walkers from St. Charles? If you can=E2=80=99t make the walk, you can still show your support with a donation. Any amount helps and 100% of cash and check donations stay here to provide tuition assistance. Students raised over $700 just by finding loose change for Penny Wars last week! Parishioner In Need Of Help: An elderly parishioner needs help raking leaves on her property. She is looking for assistance from students or a family on general fall clean-up help? This is an ideal way to earn service hours and serve our community. For more information contact Terri Blazek, Chair of the Outreach Services Team, through email.
Parent Wellness Circles: Guidance Counselor Stephanie Delmore is leading Parent Wellness Circle and there is still room for interested parents. This program is curriculum-based and focuses on understanding our parenting style and how to take care of ourselves in heart, mind, soul and strength in order to be the best parents we can be. This program will be held at St. Charles Parish School on Monday nights from 6:45 pm to 8 pm. It is open to the public as community outreach through REDgen, a Milwaukee-based group dedicated to advocating for the mental health and well being of all youth. Volunteer Opportunities: Sign-ups for a variety of volunteer jobs for the 2018-2019 School Year are now available. Please take a few minutes to peruse all the opportunities by visiting this link. Parents with students in 5K through 8th Grade are asked to perform 40 hours of service, parents with students in 4K are asked to perform 20 hours and parents with students in 3K are asked to perform 10 hours. Just added are sign-ups for the Lenten Fish Frys starting in March 2019. These are great opportunities for parents looking for night and weekend hours.
Trivia Night Is Back: Grab friends and create a team for the annual Trivia Night at St. Charles on Saturday, Nov. 17. If you've never attended this signature event you must try it this year. Loads of fun and laughter and some very tough questions. It's a great way to meet other parents and parishioners while raising money for the school. There are perks if you register before Nov. 1. Traveling Rosary Shrine Coming Soon: Several parents are working to establish a traveling Rosary Shrine that would be passed between families on a weekly basis. The family hosting the shrine would say the rosary daily in their home This is a beautiful way to honor our Blessed Mother and recite the rosary with your children. Sign-ups are coming soon.
Catechesis Of The Good Shepherd: Space is available in the Catechesis of the Good Sheperd (CGS) program which is new to St. Charles this fall. CGS is a beautiful, Montessori-based religious education program for children in Grades 3K-5K (though students need not be regularly enrolled in a school to participate). Children in this program tend to experience a joy and an increasing interest in their faith (especially during the Mass).
The session runs from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm on Thursday evenings (about three times each month) and begins with a parent orientation on Oct. 18th. Cost is $110 per child. Please let us know if the cost is a concern.

General Mills Box Tops For Education Fundraiser: Send in those Box Tops by Monday, Oct. 15 so we can get them counted and sent to General Mills by the Nov. 1 deadline. This is an easy fundraiser so we hope all of our families take part in it. Just buy your normal products, clip the box tops and send them to school. We'll handle the rest. Please give Box Tops to your child's teacher or drop them in the School Office.
Survey from Archdiocese of Milwaukee: The Archdiocese of Milwaukee is conducting in-depth research on how parents decide on a high school for their children. If you're the parent of a 4th through 8th Grader the Archdiocese is hoping you will take about 10-15 minutes to answer a survey. Your feedback and response is desired. Catholic Memorial High School Pom Pom Clinic: Young girls and boys interested in poms are invited to the CMH Gymnasiums on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 4 pm. Youngsters in 4K through 8th Grade are invited to join the CMH Pom & Dance Team for a session of dancing and fun! Participants will take part in a technique session, learn a pom routine, enjoy some fun and snacks and put on a show for family and friends the last 15 minutes of each session. Catholic Memorial High School Open House: All prospective families are invited to visit CMH and see "Why You Rise" at Catholic Memorial on Sunday, Oct. 21. Mass is at 10 am and the Open House is from 11 am to 2 pm. Meet teachers, coaches, current students and parents, tour the school, learn about CMH curriculum, transportation to CMH and financial pathways to a CMH education. Marquette University High School Open House: Sunday, Oct. 28, Optional Mass & Welcome Address: 9 am; Open House: 10 am to 1 pm. All families interested in learning more about Marquette High are encouraged to attend. Marquette University High School Trap Team Open Enrollment for Grades 6 - 8: Open enrollment will begin during the MUHS Open House Sunday, Oct. 28. Look for the information table. Forms will be available at Open House or at the MUHS Security Desk. There are no try outs and no experience is necessary. Completed application forms can be dropped off at the MUHS Security Desk or main office. A mandatory parent/athlete meeting will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 at 6 pm in Presidents Hall. Fundraiser For Local Pediatrician: Brian Yagoda was an avid bicyclist, loving father and husband and a parishioner at St. Anthony on the Lake. He passed away in June after being struck by a car while riding on local Delafield roads. Brian's wife Shirley has created a fund in his name to make local roads safer for bikers. The goal is to raise $80,000 to broaden the shoulders along the roads of Delafield. There is a fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 1 to 5 pm at Wine Maniacs in Oconomowoc.
