The Weekly Rundown -- Summer Edition
A Final Column from Principal Anderson
Hooray, summer is officially here. I hope that your family has been able to take some time to enjoy this time of the year. My family has been able to enjoy a couple of Brewers' games, our parish festival and time outside on bike rides and walks. It has been a great way to unwind.
And while I am enjoying the summer weekends and evenings, Mr. Garvey, the school office staff and I have been very busy wrapping up the past school year and planning for the new school year.
One important announcement I would like to pass along is that our music teacher, Mrs. Jill Henning, has resigned and won=E2=80=99t return next school year. She let me know that she thoroughly enjoyed her time at St. Charles and especially loved how the students shared their musical talents with others. She and her family are in a time of transition and she will pursue other opportunities. We are thankful for her time here at St. Charles and wish her the best of luck.
It has been a very productive three weeks and much has been accomplished. We continue to tour new families and welcome them to our St. Charles community. Mr. Garvey and I have been reviewing materials and accomplishing some big tasks. I'm very proud to let you know that we have received many excellent resumes and have been interviewing for several open positions in the last several weeks.
Mr. Garvey will announce all new staff in the next month. We are blessed to have such a great community that educators want to be a part of. And, no one knows that more than me!
As a reminder student class placements will not be announced until the teachers return in August. Teachers worked on some initial class splits before the end of the school year and they will finish the process when they return in August.
While I understand it is always an exciting moment for those families in split classes, it is a decision that we wait until August to share. You can expect the class lists to be sent out after Thursday, Aug. 23. The process of splitting the classes is well-defined and much thought goes into the decisions. Please trust in the work of the staff. And, remember if you or your child are anxious, take time to say a prayer for the right decision to be made.
Last week at the School Commission meeting I was able to share some results of data from our year of MAP testing. Please see the full results from the MAP testing here. Results from your child=E2=80=99s Spring testing were sent home with their final report card at the end of the school year. We are proud of the results and the progress our students made over the year. Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions about these results. School Commission members or I would be able to help answer your questions.
Don=E2=80=99t forget to come to Hartland=E2=80=99s Hometown Celebration Parade this Sunday at 1:30 pm. The St. Charles community has stepped up and nearly 200 people will walk along the parade route representing our parish and school. Make sure you wave and greet Mr. Garvey as he walks along with the St. Charles crowd. He is excited for this event and looks forward to getting to know many families.
As for me, I will be resting up for my first day at Catholic Memorial High School. Please pray for me as I begin my new position. I will offer many prayers of thanksgiving for all of you. I am so thankful for the commitment to Catholic education that the St. Charles community has made. You have made my time at St. Charles truly joyful. I look forward to seeing many of you in the future.

Sports Camps Keep Students Busy This Summer
If you're looking for ways to keep your kids active this summer here are a few sports-related activities:
Basketball Clinic every Thursday night: Crusaders Basketball Skills Clinics are ideal for players who are serious about improving specific areas of their game: dribbling, ball handling, shooting form and accuracy, footwork, overall hoops IQ, building up aggressiveness and confidence and developing a positive work ethic. The clinic is from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the gym. More information here.
Crusaders 10,000 Shot Club: Shoot 10,000 shots at game speed between May 20 and September 30. The 10,000 Shot Club is voluntary. It=E2=80=99s about giving boys and girls who are serious about improving as basketball players the structure to work on their game outside of school. A few shooting drills have been provided that can be completed in the driveway, at the park or at the gym. Students can complete these alone or with a partner. More information here.
St. Charles 2018 Crusader Basketball Camp: This three-day camp runs Tuesday, July 24 through Thursday, July 26 and is open to students heading into 4th through 8th Grades. More information here.
Crusader Boys Volleyball Camp Aug. 7-10: Open to all boys heading into 5th through 8th Grades, this three-day camp emphasizes fundamental volleyball skills. More information here. Please note that the Girls Volleyball camp is full.
St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in Nashotah is hosting a basketball skills clinic where student athletes learn new techniques and they also learn how to compete as Catholics. The clinic is called Be Light. The clinic is open to incoming boys and girls in 5th through 8th grades and the sessions are every Wednesday from 5 pm to 6:30 pm. More information here.
SCRIP Volunteers Needed in July/August
We're in need of volunteers who can sell SCRIP after the 5 pm Mass on Saturdays in July and one week in August. Each shift is about 30-45 minute. No worries if you've never sold before -- it's easy to handle and we'll teach you. This is a great way to get a jump start on service hours for the 2018-2019 School Year. If you can help any of these dates: July 7, 14, 28 or Aug. 28 please contact Jill Boesl. Thank you in advance for your help.
Hartland Hometown Celebration Parade This Sunday
We'll see everyone at the Hartland Hometown Parade this Sunday, July 1. Parade line-up begins at 12:45 pm on Hartbrook Road near Sendik's and the parade begins at 1:30 pm. If you ordered a t-shirt they will be handed out at the parade line-up. If you didn't register to walk you can still join the fun! Wear red, white and blue and meet at the float. Everyone is invited to join the fun. And if you are a parade watcher this year make sure to give the St. Charles float a rousing cheer as it passes by your seating area.
Ways to Give This Summer
Remember the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry throughout the summer as non-perishable food items are always accepted for those in need. Current food pantry needs are canned ham, canned chicken, spaghetti sauce, tuna, juice, Hamburger Helper, liquid dish soap and Kleenex. Donations can be dropped off in the narthex of the church.
Calendar Note: Our school calendar is set for the 2018-2019 School Year with the exception of grading and report card dates. Those dates will be finalized with the School Leadership Team and Mr. Garvey, and they do not affect any days not in session. This is a link to the 2018-2019 School Calendar.
School Office open all summer: Summer hours for the School Office are 9 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday. If you call when no one is in the School Office please leave a message and we will return the call. Please also email your questions to school@stcharleshartland.org.
