MISSION STATEMENT: St. Charles Parish School in Hartland, Wisconsin nourishes and grows a vibrant Catholic community committed to innovation, responsiveness and compassion as it prepares and challenges students in their intellectual, spiritual and moral lives.

Dear Parents,

We are celebrating KINDNESS as our school theme this year, and our St. Charles Kindness Crew showed their spirit yesterday with some new shirts. Thank you to our staff members for always spreading kindness everywhere they go!

We have two upcoming Student Dress Down Days! On Monday, December 21, our theme is Red and Green Day. On Tuesday, December 22, it's "Toes"day =E2=80=94 wear your Christmas socks! We can't wait to check out your Christmas spirit on these two special days.

COVID-19 UPDATE
We currently have one staff member and eight students quarantining at home due to being considered a close contact after exposure to a positive case outside of St. Charles

Additionally, we have one staff member who tested positive for COVID-19 as well as one student. Families of students who were considered to be in close contact with these two positive cases have been notified and are now in quarantine. This includes one staff member and twenty-seven students total.

We are extremely grateful for the tremendous efforts all of our families continue to make to help keep in-person learning going and our students and staff safe. Please keep our St. Charles School community in your prayers!

The Waukesha County Health Department recently released new information about reducing the length of quarantine for close contacts of a positive COVID-19 case to align with the CDC and the Wisconsin Health Department=E2=80=99s new guidelines. St. Charles Parish School=E2=80=99s leadership (under advisement from the School Commission) has decided to continue to operate under the guidelines that we have implemented so far this school year. Following our current protocols has kept our students and staff safe, and we believe that continuing to use these guidelines is the best way to safely offer in-person instruction. We will periodically reassess these guidelines and will notify you of any updates as they become available.

As we approach our Christmas Break, we hope that you and your family stay healthy and safe. The Waukesha County Health Department has provided a helpful resource so that everyone has a safe Christmas. Their recommendations and guidance will also help us in our efforts to continue providing in-person instruction everyday for the duration of the school year. Fact Sheet - Winter Holidays

We would also like to thank you for keeping your children home when they are not feeling well, even for the little things, and for erring on the side of caution when it comes to potential exposure. It is also important to keep your children home if you or anyone in your household is not feeling well, is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and/or is being tested for COVID-19. Thank you for your understanding!
WHAT'S NEW?
Lockdown Drill: We will be practicing a lockdown drill today. Just as we practice fire drills on a regular basis, we also want to practice other emergency procedures to help eliminate any confusion by students, staff, and guests that are in the building. Teachers have been discussing our lockdown procedure with students so that we are ready for the drill. An officer from Hartland Police Department will be present so that they are aware of our lockdown drill/procedure and can provide us with helpful feedback in any areas that need improvement.

SCRIP Waivers: SCRIP waivers have to be filled out yearly to allow your students to take home your SCRIP orders. This is a different form from the SCRIP Agreement that most families completed at the beginning of the school year. If you have not filled out a waiver for this school year and would like your student to bring home your SCRIP orders, please fill out this form and email it to Aimee Behnke. This will save you a trip to the Parish Office and will make your cards more easily available. Thank you again for supporting SCRIP!

Auction Updates: As we ramp up our preparations for this year=E2=80=99s annual auction, we want to share an exciting new event! This year, the auction will include themed raffle baskets, and the fun part is that the baskets will be created by donations from school families.  Some of the themes to expect will be: Wine and Spirits, Gift Cards, and much more.  More information will follow in the coming days to outline all the themed baskets, ideas for items that would fall within the theme, and details on when and where to drop off donations. Start cleaning out your closets, save those gift cards from this Christmas season, and keep an eye out for items you think would be a great addition to the baskets.

Students in 2nd Grade recently designed coolers and then tested them out. After sitting under heat lamps for half an hour, students measured how much water had melted from their ice pops and then assessed the pros and cons of their designs!
