THE WEEKLY RUNDOWN
January 9, 2020

MISSION STATEMENT: St. Charles Parish School in Hartland, Wisconsin nourishes and grows a vibrant Catholic community committed to innovation, responsiveness and compassion as it prepares and challenges students in their intellectual, spiritual and moral lives.

Parents and Students,

We are now back in full swing this week after Christmas break, and it is so wonderful to have all of the students and staff back. Students have been working hard on their MAPS tests, and we are excited to see how much they have learned from the beginning of the school year. Stay tuned for those results!

As we head into the winter months, I want to make sure we are prepared for any inclement weather that heads our way. We will follow the Arrowhead School District. If they close due to snow or cold, we will also close. Please make sure to check the local news channels and apps for closings, as well as our school website. In the event that the school needs to be closed, we will send out an email to all parents. If St. Charles does not close due to a weather-related situation and you feel travel to school is not safe, you reserve the right as a parent to keep your child home for any reason you feel is necessary. One quick note to mention - please keep an extra pair of pants in your student's backpack and/or boot bag. We want to make sure students have a back-up pair in case they get wet during recess.

Following His plan,
Mr. Garvey
WHAT'S NEW?
Dress Down Pass Sale: Purchase five dress down passes for $10 between January 13-22 and let your kids have days off from wearing their uniform. Print the form here and turn it in to the school office. The $10 fee will be applied to your TADs account. Students must use all of their 2nd semester passes by the last day of school (June 4). Dress down passes cannot be used on Mass days. Passes purchased during this sale will be distributed to families the week of February 3.

Home & School Association: Our HSA needs you! Our Home & School Association (HSA) oversees fundraising and social activities at school such as the Dress Down Pass sales, New Family Ice Cream Social, Dine Out nights, Trunk or Treat, and the Father/Daughter Dance. We also work together to ensure we have volunteers to help with school projects. We need parents to help fill the HSA positions that will be opening in the next year. Many of our parents have children in 7th and 8th grade and will be leaving the group, so we'd love to bring some new parents aboard to learn the ropes before our veterans head off to help with high schools! Our open positions are: VP Community & School Services shadow, Buddy Family Coordinator shadow, School Commission Liaison, and President Elect for 2020-2021. For additional information, please click here. If you are interested, please reach out to Kristin Walsh, Alicia Dougherty, or any other HSA member!

New Small Group: Attention moms! Are you looking for an opportunity to grow spiritually, reflect on the coming Gospel reading, and gain fellowship with other Catholic moms? Please join us for an adult-only small group at Birch & Banyan on Thursdays at 8:45-10:30 a.m. beginning today, January 9 through Lent. No childcare provided. Rosary Group: Our Parent Rosary Group will be meeting again on Monday, January 27 at 8:30-8:50 a.m. in the Spanish Room. Join us to pray for students, staff, parents, and the St. Charles Community. All are welcome to join in prayer - no experience necessary! Prayer sheets and rosaries will be provided.

Men's Basketball League: There are a group of school fathers who are getting together on Tuesday nights from 8:30-10 p.m. in the gym to play basketball. If you are interested in joining, please reach out to Tim Pierret. School and Parish members are welcome and encouraged to join!

Math Club: Congratulations to St. Charles' Math Club for achieving Silver Level Status in the National Math Club. Participants received certificates for their participation. The Math Club will be eligible to apply for Gold Level Status after the participants complete the Gold Level Project. Math Club members began brainstorming ideas yesterday, and they have chosen to do a math-based service project. We look forward to a Fun February Math Day that they are beginning to plan for the students at St. Charles School! Congratulations, students! The Math Club is led by Mrs. Kathy Mullen and meets on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
