NEWS & NOTES

School Directory - 1st Draft: The first draft of the 2019-2020 St. Charles Parish School Directory is now available. Please link to the directory here.  We ask that you take a few minutes to review your family's information. If information is incorrect, please email Allison Caswell with the correct information, and the changes will be made for the final directory. Please send corrections by Monday, September 23. The final directory will be sent electronically early next month. Thank you again for reviewing your family's information.

Early Release/Staff In-Service: This past Tuesday, we held a staff in-service to begin a year-long and extensive project for accreditation. Every seven years, all schools in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee follow the process to receive dual accreditation from WRISA (Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation) and WCSA (Wisconsin Catholic Schools Accreditation). As I explained at Parent Info Nights, we are tasked with gathering evidence to support our understanding of the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools (NSBECS). As stated on the website, these standards "were published in 2012 to serve as both a guide and assessment tool for PK-12 Catholic school effectiveness and sustainability. They include research-based school effectiveness criteria, as well as criteria unique to Catholic school mission and identity. The NSBECS rests on the conviction that adhering to these standards and benchmarks with fidelity will result in highly effective Catholic schools." Our work over the course of the year will focus on four domains: Mission and Catholic Identity, Governance and Leadership, Academic Excellence, and Operational Vitality.

Crusader Challenge Update: I would like to personally thank all of the individuals and families who donated to the 2019 Crusader Challenge at the Auction last March. We have used that money, as promised, to purchase items that significantly enhance our school safety, as well as the overall school experience for students, parents, and staff. With the money that was donated, we purchased and installed six new security cameras (and repositioned some existing cameras), 44 new chromebooks and 2 charging carts, and 4 new SmartBoard projectors. With these technology additions, we enhanced our building's security, are able to put more devices in the hands of our students to provide an engaging learning experience, and give teachers the tools to efficiently deliver their instruction. We are eternally grateful for your generosity, and we look forward to showing you how these items have benefited our school community. 

Lost and Found: Our Lost and Found is currently full! If you or your child have recently lost any items, please be sure to check the Lost and Found near the school office.

7 Days of Service: St. Charles Parish joins other Milwaukee Archdiocesan parishes in offering "7 Days of Service" to celebrate the 175th Archdiocesan Anniversary. Parishioners are asked to donate bar soap, deodorant, laundry detergent, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes or toothpaste (regular or trial sizes preferred) to be used in Care Bundles for clients of Catholic Charities. Place them in the marked tubs in the Narthex before September 23 at 5 p.m. If you are interested in assisting with the bundling, we will meet at St. Jerome's Parish in Oconomowoc (955 S. Silver Lake St.) between 6-8 p.m. Please contact Terri Blazek with any questions at 262-367-7608.

MKE Code Club at St. Charles: Students in grades 3-8 are invited to join the MKE Code Club! The club will run on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. starting on October 14. This club is intended for students with little to no coding experience. Click here for more information!

Birthday Book Club: You are invited to donate a book to honor your child's birthday and support our library! Click here for more information about our Birthday Book Club. Regardless of your child's birthday month, please join the Birthday Club by the end of September by returning the form to Mrs. Acker in the library.

Dress Down Pass Sale: The sale will run from September 23-27. Purchase five dress down passes for $10 and let your kids have days off from wearing their uniform. New this year for first semester: Each child can purchase 2 packs of 5 dress down passes ($10/pack). Print the form here and turn it in to the school office. The fee will be applied to your TADS account. Students must use all of their 1st semester passes by February 1, 2020. Dress down passes cannot be used on Mass days. Passes purchased during this sale will be distributed to families the week of October 7.

Fall Fest Basket Raffle: We would like to thank all who donated to the Fall Fest Basket Raffle, supported the Raffle by purchasing tickets, and who volunteered to work the Basket Raffle over the weekend. It would not have been a success without all of your generosity over the last eight months. We truly appreciate it!

Illness Policy: This is just a reminder that if your child is sick in the morning, please call the school office before 8:30 a.m. to let us know. Please do not send your child to school if he/she is sick in the morning. A child with a temperature of 100 or above should not be at school. If the temperature develops at school, the parent or an approved family member must come get the child. Thank you for your understanding!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Picture Make-up Day: School Photo Makeup (or Retake) Day will be on Friday, September 27. If your child would like to retake his or her photo, please bring the proofs and give them to the photographer. If your child hasn't taken a school photo yet, please take the photo on this day. Students are welcome to wear whatever they want for the photos, but they will have to change into their uniform after the photos unless they have a Dress Down pass.

Fall Spirit Wear Sale: Our Fall Spirit Wear Sale will run from September 27-October 7. Our try-on weekend will be September 28-29. All apparel will be available to try on for accurate sizing following all Masses. All items will be delivered in November. Read more about the sale here. Please note that this is the only sale prior to Christmas. If you want to purchase gifts, this is your chance!
 

Father/Daughter Dance: Save the date for our first annual event on October 5th from 6:30-8:30 p.m.! We are excited to bring this special event to St. Charles this year. The cost is $30 per family, and money raised will go toward new technology devices for the STEM lab. Please RSVP by completing this form and turning it in to the school office with your payment. 

Penny Wars: We will be hosting our Penny Wars again this Fall! It will run from October 4-10, and all money raised will stay at the school. Start saving your pennies!

Soles for Catholic Education: It is that time of year to register for the annual Soles for Catholic Education Walk! I have been participating in this walk from the beginning, and I look forward to it every year. It is amazing to see and be a part of an event with so many individuals who are dedicated to Catholic education. Please sign up and join me in this event that brings us together to not only benefit St. Charles but all of what Catholic education is about.

The walk will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 8:30 a.m. Please register for the two-mile walk and make a donation. Registration is free through September 25; otherwise, the registration fee will be $10/person. Anyone who registers before October 9 will receive a t-shirt. All donations raised will stay here at St. Charles! Find out more information and register at www.catholicschoolswalk.org. 

To register, select Register to Join Your School's Team and then either Join As a New Participant or enter your login information if you are a Returning User. Locate St. Charles - Hartland under the School Selection dropdown menu and click Search for a Team. Select St. Charles - Hartland Crusaders and click Join. You will then be able to register for the event. 

Halloween Parade: Save the date for our annual Halloween Parade and classroom parties at St. Charles on Thursday, October 31! More information will be coming soon.
