The Weekly Rundown

MISSION STATEMENT: St. Charles Parish School in Hartland, Wisconsin nourishes and grows a vibrant Catholic community committed to innovation, responsiveness and compassion as it prepares and challenges students in their intellectual, spiritual and moral lives.

Parents,

Thank you for all that you are doing to get your child(ren) ready for the start of a successful school year! I know and understand many hours go into this process and I know I can speak on behalf of the St. Charles Parish and School staff, that we are so very appreciative of our families for ensuring that we are partners in education and in Christ. I can=E2=80=99t wait to see everyone!

Next week, our teachers and staff return for Teacher In-service! We will be diving into various topics of professional development to continue our promise to be lifelong learners. We will work together and learn from one another as we grow professionally and spiritually.

Our teachers and staff look forward to meeting new families at the Ice Cream Social on Sunday, Aug. 18 from 4 pm to 6 pm near the playground. This event is for new families and mentor "buddy" families. St. Charles is known for its warm and welcoming community and we look forward to showing that firsthand as we meet dozens of new families this weekend.

New Staff:  We are excited to announce that we have hired two new staff members!

Lizbeth Johnson - 3K Aide:  Liz has spent the past four years at St. Paul=E2=80=99s Parish School in Genesee Depot as a 4K Teaching Assistant. She is a mother of three and truly enjoys working with students and families by providing a positive faith-filled learning environment.

Tracy Melzer - 4th/5th Grade Teaching Assistant:  We are very blessed and lucky to have Tracy returning to St. Charles this school year after spending the past nine years working as a personal assistant to one of our students. She is caring, a wealth of knowledge and compassionate towards all students. So thankful she will continue to be part of the St. Charles staff.

Tuition Agreements:  All agreements are completed and last week an email from TADS was sent to all parents with enrolled students. Please complete your tuition agreement as soon as possible as they are due Thursday, Aug. 15. Thank you to all the families who have already submitted their agreements!

Back-to-School Forms:  Forms are available HERE or you can access them through the email that was sent on Aug. 3. Some forms are electronic and will be completed online and other forms need to be printed and dropped off in the School Office. We kindly ask that all forms be completed and dropped off by Monday, Aug, 19. The School Office is open from 9 am to 2 pm each weekday. If the School Office is closed there will be a tray outside the office to drop the paperwork. The outer door of the front entrance will be open from 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday so that you can drop off forms in the tray outside of office hours.

Hot Lunch Program: A quick reminder that hot lunch orders for August and September are due Thursday, Aug. 15. Don't delay! More information is HERE.

Children=E2=80=99s Choir: We're looking forward to having our children take part in the Children's Choir. Rehearsals will be after school on WEDNESDAYS from 3:30 pm to 4: 15 pm. We are looking forward to working with your children and making music together! The first rehearsal will be Wednesday, Aug. 28th at 3:30 pm in the church. For more information and to sign up please email Maria Notch, the parish's liturgical music assistant, who will co-direct the choir with our new music director. The Children's Choir sings at school Masses. The first Mass of the school year is Friday, Aug. 30.

New Music Director: Scott Currier will begin working as the new Music Director at St. Charles Parish starting Sept. 1. He has been serving as the Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Mary's in Waukesha for the past four years. Scott previously played for the St. Charles 6 pm Life Teen Mass and is looking forward to returning to the St. Charles Parish and School community. As a devout Catholic, he brings a wide breadth of musical experience as well as spiritual depth to the music staff. Scott is a family man - husband to Bridget and father of 7. We hope you'll give Scott and his family a warm St. Charles welcome as they join our community next month.

Back to School Teacher Breakfast: Each year parents provide a delicious breakfast for teachers and staff on the first day of school. The Home and School Association is looking for volunteers who can provide some food and drinks on Tuesday, Aug. 27. It's never too early to get a jump on your volunteer hours and this is an easy task. A Sign Up Genius will be sent very soon. Finally, a  quick and important message from Deacon Allen Olson, former music and middle school religion teacher at St. Charles Parish School and current Parish Director at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish in North Lake and Monches:

Hello St. Charles Parishioners, My name is Deacon Allen Olson and I am the Deacon and Parish Director for St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in North Lake. and Monches.

Every December parishioner Jacyntha Shaw and I go out to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, the poorest Indian Reservation in the United States, and visit Red Cloud Catholic School which has wonderful connections with the Marquette Jesuits.

Through last year's generous donations by St. Charles parishioners, we were able to give each teacher in kindergarten through 8th Grade a box of teaching supplies and each student a bag full of school supplies such as pens, pencils, paper, crayons/markers, pencil box, etc. We also give each student in kindergarten through 4th grade a small stuffed animal as a gift. For many this will be the only gift they receive at Christmas time.

We delivered new clothing for Sacred Heart (which is similar to St. Vincent de Paul) that residents may purchase at extremely low prices.
Your generous donations also supplied another nearby Catholic school on the reservation, Our Lady of Lourdes, with the same amount of supplies as Red Cloud School.

This year I again humbly ask that as you purchase school supplies for your children you also purchase an item for Red Cloud School students. There will be large totes at the back of church and near the School Office where you or your child may drop off the school items.

Thank you very much for your continued generosity!

Deacon Allen Olson
