MISSION STATEMENT: St. Charles Parish School in Hartland, Wisconsin nourishes and grows a vibrant Catholic community committed to innovation, responsiveness and compassion as it prepares and challenges students in their intellectual, spiritual and moral lives.

WHAT'S NEW?
Shorts Policy: Today is the last day to wear shorts until April 15!

Pizza Lunch: Thank you to Amy Ferguson, Jennifer Mills, Jessica Williams, and all of the 8th grade families who helped with our pizza lunch yesterday! Staff and students loved it!

Endter's Night Out: St. Charles Night at Endter's in Hartland will be on Sunday, October 18 from 4-10 p.m.! Endter's will donate $5 for every large pizza and $3 for every small pizza to St. Charles Parish School. Dine in or carry out.

School Directory: The second draft of the St. Charles School Directory is now available! Please click here to view it and make sure your family's information is correct. Please email Allison Caswell by Monday, October 19 if anything needs to be updated.

MAP Testing: Fall MAP Testing results will be sent home today for students in 5K through 8th Grade. These data results are used to help teachers and students set specific learning goals, track achievement, and monitor academic growth. Students will take the math and reading tests in Winter and again in Spring. You can learn more about MAP Testing from the Parent Toolkit. Please contact your child's teacher with any questions you may have.

Hot Lunch Updates: Please read this letter and follow the instructions to get signed up for the hot lunch program. As soon as we hire a food service employee, we will be able to launch our hot lunch program. Getting signed up ahead of time will ensure you are ready for your child(ren) to receive hot lunch right away. Additionally, as you will read in the letter, the Department of Public Instruction released news that USDA Reimbursable Meals will continue through the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Meals are fully reimbursable by the USDA provided that the food purchased meets the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) guidelines. This means our families can try hot lunch meals at no cost throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

Book Fair: Save the date for our online Book Fair! It will run from Thursday, October 29 through Sunday, November 8. Books start at just $5, and most books are hardcover. This is a great time to start purchasing Christmas gifts! Click here for more information.

Birthday Treats: After re-evaluating our COVID protocols, we have determined that individually-wrapped, store-bought treats are acceptable for birthday celebrations as of Monday, October 19. Please be mindful of any allergies in your child's classroom when making your selections and coordinate with your classroom teacher. Thank you!

Trunk or Treat: Registration is open for Trunk or Treat! Please click here for the form. There is no fee for Trunk or Treat this year. Instead, we are asking St. Charles families to generously donate to the canned food drive for our neighbors in need at St. Vincent de Paul. Items currently needed are Thanksgiving items, pudding and applesauce snack packs, crackers, coffee, and K-cups. Soups and canned meats are not needed at this time. SCRIP gift cards to grocery stores and gas stations are also appreciated and may be purchased through the order form at the Parish Office, marked for St. Vincent de Paul. Families will receive fundraising credit! There has been much thought put into making Trunk or Treat available and safe for families. St. Charles is committed to following CDC, County and Archdiocese of Milwaukee guidelines. In order to make this event possible, we need everyone's help. We ask the following:
  • Kids should be in small groups of classmates or family members.
  • Small groups should be spaced 6 feet apart.
  • Adults should use a contactless approach to distributing candy. Please use gloves and drop treats directly into students' bags.
  • Masks should be worn by all.
We had so much fun last year at this event and look forward to seeing all the great costumes and decorated cars again this year!
NEWS & NOTES
Birthday Book Club: You are invited to donate a book to honor your child's birthday and support our library! Click here for more information about our Birthday Book Club. Regardless of your child's birthday month, please join the Birthday Book Club as soon as possible so that Mrs. Acker can place her order.

School Photos: School photo proofs were recently sent home! All proofs need to be returned by today  if you would like to place an order. If your child needs to have retakes done, they should bring their proofs today for Picture Retake Day. Please contact the School Office with any questions.

Room Parent Program: We still have the need for classroom parents in several grades/classes. Please check out our SignUp Genius and consider volunteering for this position in your child's class if there is an opening. Thank you!

Chess Club: Chris Seaman, our Chess instructor for the past couple of years, is interested in continuing to run our Chess Club here at St. Charles. As of right now, we are not able to do any after-school in-person clubs, but he is willing to start a virtual club as he is doing at other schools. If you are interested in signing your child(ren) up for Chess Club, please sign up using the Chess Club form to let us know that you are interested. We will communicate more information and next steps to those who are interested. Additionally, we are in need of a parent to facilitate/be the point of contact and help chaperone the group (when we can be in person).

Circle of Love: St. Charles' Circle of Love program has been cancelled for this year. During this month's Outreach meeting, they discussed the possibility of buying gift cards to Walmart and Target (through the SCRIP program) to give to parents at St. Anthony School in Milwaukee so they can purchase gifts directly this year. With the profit from last year's Brat Shack event and some recent donations, there is enough to give each family $100. If you are interested in helping with a monetary donation or gift cards to these families, please drop it off at the Parish Office. Checks can be made out to St. Charles Parish (with Outreach Donation on the memo line) and placed in an envelope marked with Terri Blazek's name. Please email Terri with any questions. Thank you for your generosity!

Recess Supervisor: We are still looking to hire an extra recess supervisor for the school year! If you would like to help out and/or learn more, please email Dan Garvey. The hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Parent Homework:  In case you didn=E2=80=99t get the chance to watch Principal Garvey's Parent Info Night video from October 1, we want to make sure you are aware of some homework he gave you! We will collect these cards throughout the week at drop-off and pick-up or you can stop by and drop off your homework at the main school entrance. We are all about spreading KINDNESS, and this is just another way we can do that for our students. Thank you for your help with this project and to all of you who have completed your homework!

Prayer Card: On an index card or small piece of paper:

  • Note your child=E2=80=99s name somewhere

  • Front side - write a special prayer

  • Back side - write a note of encouragement directly to your child that your teacher can give them when they are having a hard day or just need a lift

  • Put them in a Ziploc bag/envelope and give them to staff members at morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up
